More info about Film Transfers
There are many things that set us apart from other companies. We've been transferring film to DVD since 2001. Thats over 9 years of film transfers, that we take pride in. We've completed well over 1000 Film to DVD transfer jobs, and untold thousands of tape transfers. We now count our film conversions in the millions of feet, not just thousands.

First, on all Film to DVD projects, we make an additional copy of your edited film onto Hard Drive in AVI FOrmat and store these copies in our studio vault. They will be available years in the future, should something happen to your DVDs. There will be a small re-authoring charge to access these MiniDV tapes, but it's a small price to pay for peace of mind. You need to tell us if you do NOT want us to store a copy of your film.

Secondly, something we learned early on, is to try to save as much footage of film as we can, by editing out broken, black, and damaged setions int he computers after the film has been digitized, rather than splicing, and leaving it on the cutting room floor. This way, we can maximize the footage that is there by being more precise, and possibly saving many smaller sections that would have otherwise been lost.

Not only is the amount of footage important, but the size of the frame. We've had special gate's machined into our telecine's to allow us to shoot outside the frame, and then digitally crop it afterwards. We even add a bit of dummy space around the frame, so not to get any of the actual image hidden behind the TV Cabinet.

Here is an illistration to help show what we mean......

Film to DVD - Telecine
Film is transferred through a normal size gate. A gate on a projector decreases the amount of picture shown by as much as 20% The video image is then taken in this raw unedited format straight to DVD authoring software. In the final product that you view on your television, the outer 5-20% of video of picture is now hidden by the televisions cabinet. The actual video footage is stretched to the televisions viewing area....which is partially hidden from your view.
Film to hard Drive - Telecine
Our 8mm film transfers are converted directly into the computers with a telecine system that has a removed gate. This means that we're shooting outside the full frame for your film, and capturing all of the picture.

We then digitally crop to the outermost edges, and then ADD a black border to the outside. We are not removing any picture to do this, but rather adding to the overall size.

When your television stretches the 8mm film footage to fit the screen, the portions hidden behind the television is the black border that we have added in the editing process. This allows for more of your 8mm and Super 8 film transfer to be seen, than methods used by most transfer houses.

Our processes have been fine tuned through over 2,000,000 feet of film. Since 2001, we have been transferring 8mm film, Super 8 Film, 16mm Film, and many different formats of tape. Our business is transferring old media to DVD or Hard Drive.

We know how important your film is, and we will work as hard as possible to earn your business. If you have any questions, or concerns, please feel free to contact me, or my staff at any time.

We're looking forward to helping you preserve your memories.

All the best,
Robert
